บอกตามตรง วิดีโอข้างบน ถือว่าเป็น video ที่แสดงลักษณะ และผลกระทบของอาการของโรค ที่ "หยุดหัวใจ" ที่สุด ไม่สิ ผมเป็นหมอสมอง ผู้เชื่อว่า ความรู้สึกควบคุมมาจากสมอง มิใช่หัวใจ ขอเปลี่ยนเป็นคำว่า เป็น video ที่ "shock เซลล์ประสาทที่สุด"
ใน video สะท้อนอารมณ์ของคนที่เป็นโรคกล้ามเนื้ออ่อนแรงจาก Motor Neuron Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, ALS) ซึ่งเป็นโรคที่เกิดจากการเสื่อม ของเซลล์ประสาทที่ควบคุมการทำงานของกล้ามเนื้อในส่วนต่าง ๆ ของร่างกาย และเป็นที่น่าเสียใจว่า เมื่อเป็นโรคนี้แล้ว "รักษาไม่หาย" ผู้ป่วยจะมีอาการอ่อนแรงทั่วตัว จากแขนขา ลำตัว การพูด การหายใจ ซึ่งเป็นโรคที่อาจเรียกได้ว่า มีความทุกทรมานจากโรคมากที่สุดโรคหนึ่ง
ผมเห็น video นี้ ผมว่า การถ่ายทำเป็นเรื่องสั้น ๆ ได้น่าสนใจ กระแทกอารมณ์ อย่างรุนแรง แต่ที่น่าสนใจกว่านั้น คือ หัวเรื่องที่จั่วว่า "Sarah's story"
ใครคือ Sarah แล้ว มี Story อะไร
Sarah Ezekiel เป็นผู้ป่วยที่มีอาการอ่อนแรงทั่วตัวด้วยโรค Motor Neuron Disease โรคกล้ามเนื่้ออ่อนแรง (ยกเว้นกล้ามเนื้อตา) แต่เธอฟื้นชีวิตของเธอใหม่ด้วยการใช้การกลอกตาในการวาดรูปผ่านคอมพิวเตอร์
Sarah ใน video มีตัวตนจริง โดยชื่อเต็มชื่อ Sarah Ezekiel เป็นผู้ป่วยที่เป็น Motor neuron disease จริง ๆ ที่มีอาการอ่อนแรงจนเดินไม่ได้
แต่อาการอ่อนแรงเดินไม่ได้ ไม่ได้ทำให้จิตใจของ Sarah ได้อ่อนล้าลงไปเลย โดยเธอได้ปลุกพลังแห่งความหวังในตัวขึ้นมาสู้กับโรคร้ายและผันให้เป็นพลังแห่งการมีชีวิตอยู่ด้วย การถ่ายทอดเรื่องราว (Sarah's story) ด้วยการช่วยจาก computer อัจฉริยะ E Z key ซึ่งเธอสามารถใช้การกรอกตาในการเขียนหนังสือได้ นอกจากนี้เธอยังใช้ความสามารถในการกรอกตา วาดรูปโดยใช้ program computer ได้อีกด้วย
The Tobii PCEye เป็น peripheral eye tracker ซึ่งสามารถใช้ความรวดเร็ว ตำแหน่ง ในการกลอกตา ในการควบคุมและสั่ง computer ซึ่งเปรียบไปก็เหมือนกับการใช้ mouse เพียงแต่ต่างกันเพียงแต่การควบคุมโดยการกรอกตาเท่านั้น >> http://www.tobii.com/pceye

Sarah เป็นอีกหนึ่งบุคคลที่มีความพยายามในการแสวงหาความหมายและความสุขของการมีชีวิต ท่ามกลางมรสุมและอุปสรรคทางร่างกาย
เห็น Sarah แล้ว ลองกลับไปมองคนที่มีแขนขา อวัยวะครบ 32 ประการ ที่มีความท้อแท้ต่อการใช้ชีวิตว่า และอยากบอกว่า "ได้เกิดมาครบ 32 ประการและไม่มีโรคถือเป็นกำไรของชีวิตแล้ว"

Short story of Sarah
Everything was pretty straightforward for me until the age of 34. I was happily married with a beautiful little girl and pregnant with my much longed for second child. I was healthy, fit and enjoying my pregnancy. I couldn't have asked for more.
In February 2000, I noticed some weakness in my left arm and my speech was slurring. By April 2000 I had a definite diagnosis of motor neurone disease. It happened that quickly and I was absolutely terrified. My world was shattered. My marriage collapsed as I became progressively disabled. I couldn't physically care for my children or myself anymore, and spiralled into deep depression. I'm now a single, disabled parent who is totally dependant on carers for everything. I never expected my life to change so tragically and it took me years to see anything positive about my situation.
BUT, I pulled myself up from rock bottom and if I could do it then I believe that anyone can. The first step was to start attending my local Marie Curie hospice in April 2001. I receive amazing care and really love going there.
I started writing my story next, using a program called E Z Keys with a chin switch. I'm now using the Tobii PCEye . I've had articles published, given presentations to health professionals, made two films, participated in several photo shoots and had my portrait painted. I'm the London Jewish News Community Hero 2010, and the Sarah in the MNDA's advert 'Sarah's Story'. I'm also the Secretary of the NW London branch of the MNDA.
Approximately 5,000 people have this devastating illness in the UK and 5 people die from it every day. My aim is to continue to raise awareness of MND until a cure is found.
